so I've been vastly underwhelmed by spn ever since far as I'm concerned, the series ended with Swan Song and everything after that is to me sorta just...there? I've liked a few eps here or there but for the most part, I can't believe that it's still on (or that there are people that still enjoy it, or that it's still garnering new fans, though tumblr assures me that both those things are true - whut).

anyway, all that means I never watch an ep right away. I usually download it, then it sits on my hard drive til I'm bored or in a certain mood. I just got around to watching 9.01 tonight and I was kind of pleasantly surprised. it felt more spny and relevant to the original show than anything's been in ages (partly because it simply retread a lot of old ground, but whatev).

I remember people speculating a while ago about how we're just now approaching the timeline of The End and how what if the angels falling is looping back around to that the time, I thought "I'm just not sure they're that clever anymore" -

(I mean, I never particularly thought they were as clever as they wanted to be, but in a post-teen wolf world, it seems like early spn was comparatively the cleverest. it's funny how many of spn's plot holes and quirks and have retroactively become acceptable to me in comparison. I feel like teen wolf is the new low benchmark for me of all fandom life. lol, I'm such a bitter old hag.)

- where was I? oh, yes. I thought they weren't that clever anymore but then Ezekiel talking about possessing Sam and sorta soft-selling Dean into agreeing with it got my antennae up. and then I was thinking about how the angel in the parking garage couldn't read who "Ezekiel" was and so now I'm wondering HMMM, COULD IT BE LUCIFER? IS LUCIFER POSSESSING SAM RIGHT NOW ZOMG THE END HERE WE COME.

I would be super stoked if this is what were happening. swear to god, I could forgive them for seasons 6, 7 and 8.

btw, I adore Death. I couldn't stop cracking up when Dean arrived because Death totally understated aura of exasperation like, he's seen this episode before and it's been rerun approximately 1000x and dear god is he bored. <3

I hadn't even considered that but oh my god, that would be awesome! Since Cas said that Ezekiel was a good angel, but was not actually there to confirm it was Ezekiel, it's obviously not Ezekiel. I definitely think there will be interesting things happening this season and I like the set up for the beginning of this season more than I liked the beginning of season eight. I don't watch supernatural for soft-memory flashbacks of changing light bulbs. There was so much wrong there, I couldn't do more than just let it go and focus on hot dirty purgatory flashbacks to get me through.

Anyway, because the Lucifer thing makes so much awesome sense, it probably won't happen. But it would be awesome if it did.

ah-hahaha I feel like you just described the fundamental reality of fandom speculation

Hehe. I'm one of those poor souls who will watch til the end. :-) and that speculation would be really so awesome but I'm tempering my expectations. :-)

I agree about SpN being mainly disappointment leavened with the occasional good ep for the last few years (what a waste of time the Leviathans were, OMfreakingG) - and when episodes with Felicia Day, whom I find ever so annoying and talentless, are the ones that top the list? Yeah, something's wrong there. Nevertheless, Crowley still in the trunk, knock once for yes and twice for no, was pretty hilarious.

All I wanted was a season where Death was the big bad, damnit, not because he's evil but because he's inevitable and also completely awesome, but I guess I'll never get it.

I sincerely hope that Ezekiel is Lucifer, but I gotta say, Cas was so pleased-looking to hear his name, it's probably not true. Don't you think Cas would know a typical Lucifer pseud? Or maybe he was grinning because Lucy's alive and well, and seemingly helping his boys. Who knows?

Also, could they please stop killing off all of the interesting new female characters (the Nephilim immediately springs to mind)? I wanted to know more about Hale (Hael?). Surely Cas was clever enough to escape her some other way? Didn't have to steal her angel sword and stab her, did he?

Wow, babbling. Talk back to me, lady! :)

well, my assumption was that Ezekiel was a real angel that Castiel sincerely does like, but that Lucifer (if this is a thing) was simply lying about his identity. Castiel wasn't there to see who it was (if he even still has that ability), nor did he ever talk to the angel on the phone - he was getting it second-hand from Dean.

though I can't remember whether Lucifer lying would be a thing in their universe, haha. did he lie ever, or was he more of a truth twister, I can't remember

Maybe the only lie he told in this circumstance was his name, then. And that's a lie the Winchesters themselves tell as easy as breathing, so one could hardly hold it against him... right?

Also, he might have the title "Father of Lies" laid on him by Heaven, in an attempt to spin-doctor the Fall. Naughty lying rebel is a less sympathetic angel than, say, noble rebelling truth-seeker who can't bear to live a proscribed life any more, right?

I thought season 8 really brought their game up a lot... I really enjoyed it... and I'm eager to see where this season goes...

I don't think Ezekiel is Lucifer (probably not, though that could be VERY cool) but I don't think Ezekiel is the Ezekiel Cas knows from heaven, either :/ I think there's some deception going on here...

What I'm dying to see is CROWLEY's storyline this season... what even IS he now??? :P

WAT? Esplain this to me. How is Ezekiel secretly Lucifer? Isn't Lucy in the hole in the ground?

Also, ugh, there are exactly two reasons why I am still watching this show:

1. I can't NOT
2. A-- Oh, spoiler. haha I will tell you later
