sometimes I really, REALLY miss the days where I was new and shiny and had one fandom which happened to be large and still relatively stable (though waning) and everything was on lj, and all that put together meant lots of fandom friends that I talked to and formed fuzzy connections with. I miss *knowing* people, not just recognizing their usernames.

otoh, disconnect has the advantage of being insensate to fandom politics. I don't know who the bnf's are unless I'm hit over the head with a properly-labeled two-by-four, or who doesn't get along with who, or where the faction lines are, or...a million other things that were always tedious and pointless and dumb.

but still. sometimes when I'm wandering around a new fandom, I see a familiar username and am filled with glee because zomg I fangirled that person's writing so hard when I was a wee little fangirl, and it gives me nostalgia, because I don't really *experience* that anymore. and it's nice.

Ah, ambivalence re fandom. Yes. I know it well.

You speak truth there. I read this with such recognition.
I thought it was something I was feeling because I seem to have stopped posting, so interaction is more one way, nowadays.

yeah it seems to be going around - I too don't post much anymore. I just don't feel like putting much of myself out there, idk. so yeah, you get what you put in, and I'm mostly fine with that.

A03 killed fandom.

Really? IMO it was Tumblr. Zero personal interaction.

I think they colluded. though I much prefer reading and posting fic on AO3, I have to say, yeah it is a lot less interactive which is sad.

lol'ing irl because I feel like I followed you home from AO3 and by home I mean to LJ.

This so much.

Between tumblr and anon memes (which dont get me wrong I love) there's no long term relationship building happening in fandom anymore.

I don't understand the point of anon memes? I've said and done more than my share of stupid shit in fandom, all with my name attached. Life goes on.

From: [identity profile] firefox1490.livejournal.com
Late reply, sorry.

I feel like the point of anon meme's was so people could try out fandoms that weren't their normal one without anyone knowing. Or write something in their fandom that they normally wouldn't. Plus it let people without LJ accounts post fic.

I have a love hate relationship with them because some of my favorite fic happened because of anon memes but then so many things I LOVED TO DEATH where anon and then abandoned or lost and it breaks my wee little heart.

I guess I haven't experienced the disconnect yet. I still see how active my fandom is, even on LJ, and it amazes me every day.

Sorry you're feeling that way.

I kinda wish I were more of a one-fandom girl? but it turns out I flit from flower to flower and rarely become wholly invested in any one thing. I'm a fandom slut. *sigh*

I become wholly invested in lots of things. At the moment, though, I'd say I'm most invested in about two fandoms.

It's always nice to see YOU posting ;) Remember those heady early days of fandom? Miss them. Miss my excitement. Now I just feel mired in the everyday work of stay-at-home momdom. And even though that in itself is a noble pursuit, it doesn't match the excitement of getting involved in a wonderfully long fic or talking geek with like-minded people.

*squish* thanks :)

and yeah *weighs porn against motherhood* lol. they're probalby both exciting in wildly different ways? I wonder which one involves more body fluids...yeah I'm not sure I want to know actually :D

You know what's totally true/funny/weird? Once you become a mother you become obsessed with your child's poop. I could talk poop all day with my other mommy friends. How it looks, how often it comes out, how to get it out if it isn't coming out...dare I go on? My child-free niece shut me down quick when I brought up the topic with her ;)

What fandoms are you wandering about in these days?

Suits is such a quiet fandom - especially when the show's on hiatus - that I've been a restless little critter ever since I fell in love with it. so there's been a lot of things, but like...star trek 2009 and its rps, hannibal, teen wolf only on a rec basis, vikings should be active again soon...idk, those are just the ones that had enough fic I could actually oggle. any time I watch something I enjoy, I inevitably give the fic a look. I've also been rereading a few of my favorite middle-years fandoms (after buffy but before suits) like oz

and I haven't been writing *anything* because my mind obviously hates me. *fistshake*

what have you been up to, bb?

From: [identity profile] brunettepet.livejournal.com
I'm surprised how quiet Suits is. I miss those men. I am very, very afraid of Teen Wolf. Those guys are pretty but I couldn't get into the show. Like Arrow, there's a lot to ogle but not a lot to mull over.

From: [identity profile] thatotherperv.livejournal.com
I wish there was more Suits fic. like, every day I wish that. part of the reason I've lost their voices in my head is that I read more fic in other fandoms because there *is no more suits fic* for me to read *pouts*

I've come to a point where I really and truly loathe teen wolf. I could rant on forever about why the canon violates like...all my rules of fangirldom. it's such garbage. I'll probably download the new season just to skim through the parts with Dylan O'Brien because unfortunately I still love the little shit, but I'm done watching and I'm done reading fic unless it's rec'd to me personally (heh)

I love Arrow, but yeah, a thinking man's show it is not. I find it entertaining, and Stephen Amell is pretty (especially with his shirt off, good lord) and has sexual chemistry with literally everyone he talks to which is glorious. my brain is not the organ I'm watching with :)

....wow. tl;dr.

I talk about this ALL THE TIME. I miss being in a centralized fandom and I miss meeting new people. :(

What are you watching/writing now a days?

Date: 2014-01-04 06:52 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] thatotherperv.livejournal.com
I'd say my primary fandom is Suits, and it's really all I've written for the last few years, but I've been dabbling around in a lot of other stuff. as far as reading goes, star trek, star trek rps, hannibal. watching with enthusiasm but there's no fic fandom to speak of: elementary, arrow, grimm, sleepy hollow, blacklist, almost human...*headscratch* probably a half-dozen more that are off-season right now, haha

I am SUPER SAD there's no Almost Human fic. Especially since it hits all of my fandom buttons with a giant hammer.
