random poll on a sunday

this is random as all hell, but sometimes I think about this. it's been said by me, multiple times, that I prefer not to think of Giles naked. ASH is a different matter, Ripper...I can be persuaded, but Giles...no thanks.

the exception to this is Ethan. I can read Giles/Ethan, past and sometimes present. but here's something I go back and forth on, and I wonder how everyone else settles it in their own mind.

because in my way of thinking, Giles/Ethan is as canon as spangel is. it totally happened. and they totally want it to happen again, whether they'd admit it or not (I'm looking at you, Rupert).

I chose the first option, I think Ripper was always on top, and Giles still would be.

I think they have sort of the same dynamic as Spike and Angel do, with Ethan being the rebellious 'child' who's secretly only looking for acceptance/praise from his (yes, I'm really gonna say this)... 'daddy'.

well, I answered the poll, but I don't even like my own answer, because I vascillate so much.

I think I have a hard time in general imagining Giles as a top. not that I imagine him as a big ole bottom, and not that I have a hard time at all imagining him being with another man...I just don't know what the hell he is to me. probably versatile, if I had to say. it's just whenever I've read him being all uber-toppy, it creeps me the hell out. something about how it's usually written. like you're trying to cram a foot into a shoe that doesn't really fit. dunno, there's something that feels wrong about it.

so yeah, I don't have any *reasons* so much as a feeling about it, which changes. sometimes I think Ethan would be the top, totally. sometimes I think Ethan topped at first, corrupted Giles, then Giles took over. sometimes I think they never thought much about who was topping one way or the other, it just happened how it happened. sometimes I think it was a power struggle. sometimes I think

Lmao, now I really understand why you did the poll. And now I'm not so sure about my answer either. I could see Ethan corrupting Giles too, but maybe not so much as the top. More in a blowjob-and-stuff way. And then Giles was all 'Grr" and 'Come here you bad boy.' Lol. And there you have the reason I don't write fic. :)

as to who was'daddy?' um, i'm thinking Ethan, actually, and here's why:

when they were younger and hanging out, Ethan totally had more knowledge and fewer scruples. I'm betting that Ripper let Ethan run the show, and any mischief they got up to was at Ethan's instigation... i can even see Ripper being the muscle to Ethan's brain, simply because Ripper was looking for (at that point) a charismatic leader who could reveal the secret mysteries of the underworld to him...

i would even bet that it was Ethan who nutured and helped the Ripper persona to bloom. I'm thinking Rupert was probably raised with good, middle class values, and that Ethan was murkier than him right off the bat.

OMFG I LOVE YOU. I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU I LOVE YOU. this is exactly how I feel about them, but I've never been able to put my finger on why I feel as though Ethan was the top. yes yes yes. that's precisely it. I've heard the argument for Giles as top so many times, I was beginning to think I was senile, and disconnected from reality (er...canon. god, the two are not the same thing *bangs head against desk*) completely
