pat yourself on the back woman, that was incredible. in particular i liked the turn in jeff between the two encounters. as if he spent time trying to figure it out. (but why? more please?)
and some praise on a technical note - the 2nd person POV you've used works really well here. the inner monologue adding more depth than any 3rd person perspective could. it makes the rationalization (if that's the word i'm searching for) the desperate need to feel, seem, um, rational?
