I love spander bonding too! the funny thing is, I wrote that before I remembered that Xander like tried to kill Spike when he slept with Anya, and that happened before I departed from canon. and then I had to go back and fix that. but yeah, I can see it going like that and it was one of my favorite things so I'm glad you liked it!
Spike can be such a softie. and he was such a good citizen here, trying to resist Dawn and taking care of her, and I struggled with whether that was in-character for souled spike but I think it's not a stretch, with his grief for Buffy all over again.
