I think you've nailed my frustration with that. They probably can't keep running along the ARC full speed for 20+ episodes, and need a few lighter one offs to balance the angst and pick up new viewers and shit. I'm a sucker for the original MotW formula, and I'm pretty confident that they could bring the humour, and have their AU-flashbacks-that-teach-Dean-a-lesson one offs and hyper-stylized episodes, and still stay on point. It just takes a bit more effort.
Sera et al.: every time you make an episode that does not push the narrative in someway , then you are essentially telling me that the stakes are NOT as immediate as I think "apocalyse" might imply. Either the seals are breaking, Lucifer/Lilith are coming, and they ought to be stopped, or not. You can't be meh on this one.
oh, and the icon? madame_meretrix made it for me. apparently my default smoking JDM was not helping with the not smoking... the pics that keep surfacing are doing something amazing to my girly bits.
