Sometimes, I think the House writers just like to do weird shit. There's a lot of stuff that just doesn't make sense on that show, and... you know... some of us are probably smarter than they are, and so we try to look for meaning where there isn't any :)
And yes, damn it, just give in renew your paid account. You're right, it's a complete waste of money, but I've become addicted. The userpics are nice. Mmmmm, comfort.
