thatotherpervyou may have noticed that I'm prone to ridiculously long author's notes, haha. filthy habit, can't help myself. I wrote one for the chapter I'm about to post at AO3 and since it's really not at all necessary outside my neurosis for shared meaning, I decided that I'd go ahead and post it here instead of on the chapter itself.
I wanted to throw something out there before I start throwing the term “24/7” into the story, because before I did some research, I wasn’t sure what the difference (if any) there was between 24/7 and TPE (total power exchange) relationships. They were synonymous to me – as in, I knew there was a spectrum of practice, but when I heard ‘24/7’, my mind automatically substituted ‘being in a constant state of domination/submission.’ After educating myself a little more, it seems that the terms themselves have more of a venn diagram relationship – the definition I had in mind lives in the overlap. 24/7 without TPE apparently exists as a relationship where there is the *potential* for power exchange at any time, but the power exchange isn’t constant – the couple exists in a state of fluid movement back and forth between the two. I actually like this as the natural and preferable type of relationship that Harvey and Mike would engage in, since their natural dynamic mirrors it really closely.
As I’ve said before, I have no experience with this stuff – I do know that definitions of certain concepts are variable within the active BDSM community, but with that in mind, if I’m working off of misinformation or if you know that my grasp on these concepts isn’t quite right, please please please feel free to share your pov. Having verisimilitude makes me 1000x happier than living in a concrit free environment.
