Been years since I watched the film, so the second one I guessed. The first one - he strikes me as the kind of guy that would think of himself by the last name. Dunno. I probably should have some profound reason for this, but mostly I think maybe its a vulnerability thing. Bender's a tough guy, whereas John could possibly be soft for his girl. People's mothers use their first and sometimes middle names, but rarely if never their last. I can see Bender holding some geek over a trashcan, pounding his head and telling the kid his name is Bender. "Only my mother calls me John and you ain't my mother." Claire though, she might get away with it. Heh. I hope you write the story now. Curious to see which way you go with it.

does this mean you are writing a bc fic? and to explain my pics (bender for 1, john for 2) i think he has started to call himself bender because of the double meaning. it's a way of trying to seem even more bad-ass, because it's his last name and it's what you go on after a lot of drugs or drinking. i think he would get off on the double-meaning.
