hey! still getting settled and running around, so if you've messaged me and I haven't gotten back to you, I will....eventually. ditto for wips I keep up with.

my parents were here for an hour yesterday and I needed valium. well, not really because I didn't have any, but recreational use would have been appreciated.

oh, yeah. um, so just a very specific question. I like keeping houseplants but I know thismuch about botany and plant husbandry. really, I'm an animal girl. :) so here's my dilemma.

I have this uh. leafy plant. hahaha. I can't tell you what kind, it was given to me and I haven't a clue. but it's got big flat happy leaves, no flowers. he and his identical friend were outside in the cold rain for a few days before I moved. *is a bad plant mommy* it wasn't freezing, but not far off--it got down into the upper 30s, and was in the 40s the rest of the time. and yeah, raining. now my big happy friend looks kinda...bleached out, for lack of a better descriptor. like his leaves look unnaturally pale. his identical friend, who is less leafy and voluminous, was out in the same conditions and is perfectly fine.

so uh. what the hell is wrong with this guy and how do I nurse him back to health? or *is* something wrong with him? am I being a plant mommy hypochondriac? :)

so its kinda yellow because of the amount of water it got. It causes the cells to lyse. or burst. If its light yellow say goodbye but if its just a bit yellow its salvagable. . Dont water it for a few days. When you do water it only a little and use warm water not hot but comfy warm for a baby type warm. Depending on the type of plant and its particular hardiness it could bounce right back or it might take a week. good luck.

ok thanks! I'd already guessed it was maybe waterlogged, so I haven't watered them since I brought them in.

it's not all that pale, but some leaves are paler than others. will it help to prune away the one or two that look really bad?

Without knowing the plant it's kind of hard to know what kind of conditions it likes when it is at home. However, Seaweed tonic is like chicken soup for plants. Get the kind that doesn't smell, or else keep your plant in a non-critical room for a few days after application - mix it with water to apply. It is helpful whatever the problem is. Your plant might have got more light than it is used to and been bleached, been overwatered (though, the one I killed that way? the problem started at the leaf tips) or be missing some sort of trace element (my camellias go yellow when they run out of iron) Hope this is helpful, S
