I finally managed to watch it online. whoo
ok so, I thought the seven deadly sins idea was cool, though now I'm confused about the relationship between demons and the essential human nature in spn. do the demons *cause* those innate impulses? or are they born from them? or are they separate, but equal (haha) like a coincidence or....*headscratch* I'm having a metaphysical crisis over here.
my roommate was all, why does lust have to be a woman? and I was like, because it has to come onto Dean, and they can't show Dean wanting to fuck men (explicitly) on network television. because I don't think they're as brave as joss. I already told her I think Jensen is a bit of a poofter. that he has no chemistry with women. and then she pouted, haha.
um. I'm straying. *wanders back to the point*
I love Bobby. *hearts* but he should keep his hat on.
ok, I dug white-chick-with-the-knife. I have a thing for women who kick ass lately. it rubbed my kink the right way. I might be alone in saying I hope her character develops nicely and she ends up having some sort of interesting interaction with Sam. as soon as I saw her, and the chemistry there, I could hear the fangirls all over the world gnashing their teeth. man. spn people...wtf is up with the hatred of female characters? I didn't love Jo, but I didn't really hate her either (which I think was the problem. I just didn't *care*), but I've liked a number of the other chicks they've introduced. I feel like I can never get attached to them, because everyone but Dean and Sam seem expendable, but I liked Dean's ex, for example. I was surprised to realize when I watched Heart again recently that I didn't feel they developed the chick or the relationship as well as they could have. I was really wrapped up in it the first time, so I was a little disappointed on the re-watch. it's like I can buy that Sam was upset because of the way that situation resonated with his guilt over Jessica, but I couldn't quite buy that he'd become *that* attached to this girl that all his upset was over her alone.
er, this is turning into more of a general post than a post about 3.01, but whatever, haha. maybe because I don't have much to say about 3.01 itself. I really enjoyed it, but after the earth-shatteringness of the finale, it seemed a little more mundane, which was actually a relief. I dug this particular monster-of-the-week concept. dug the chick. dug the conflict between dean and sam, and the way Dean swallowed the claim that he was selfish to resurrect Sam, and really dug that he said he deserved it after all he'd done with the family. I liked the irony of that...that his reward for everything he'd given is actually one final pound of flesh. that his reward is to sacrifice himself for his brother. maybe I'm a sucker for the sibling love...I still cry when I watch The Gift.
Maybe I'm just a whore for the angst. ok, fair nuff.
also, I watched that Stupid Girl sam/jo vid and I really got the hankering for some good spn vids, which I haven't really delved into as yet. wanna rec me some "classic" vids in that fandom?

Date: 2007-10-07 08:15 pm (UTC)(Seriously, though, there's this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_deadly_sins#Associations_with_demons, which isn't really an answer, but it's their starting point. There's probably more info somewhere. I kinda like my answer better, though.)
Re: Heart, I think Sam was more upset about (1) the super heavy-handed parallel between his killing Madison and Dean possibly having to kill him, (2) his first point-blank "human" kill, (3) having to kill someone he had a connection with, even though I agree that they hadn't become that attached, (4) puppies, and (5) the Jess thing. Because everyone that he has sex with DIES, omg. Poor doomed, emo Sammy. *g*
But the female character thing... I don't really get it either. I've read some well reasoned complaints about Jo, but there's a whole lot of random animosity out there, too.

Date: 2007-10-07 08:33 pm (UTC)Ooh, look! Jensen and Jared are so pretty! ;-)
*snerk* equally *snerk* to puppies.
yeah I can buy all that. him and Buffy, man. they give new meaning to "sex has consequences".
we can sit in the corner and like the female characters together.

So true. And I've noticed that about Jensen too. Odd in a guy who's quite a good actor that he seems so unable to get that across.

BTW, did you see the ficlet that jumped off from my meta?
This has always bothered me. If it was Dean it would be no big deal, but given Sam's reticence for getting involved with anyone, the fact he'd get involved with this person seems to beg for more explanation than we got. For example he seems impressed with her book collection (which we don't see him looking at) and considers her "extraordinary" for reasons we don't get to see. Instead we see her throwing her panties in his face and trying to get him into her soap opera. It's not like there's anything wrong with flirting or soap operas but it doesn't go a long way to telling us much about her intelligence which is the one thing you'd expect Sam to find compelling.

Date: 2007-10-08 02:58 am (UTC)hey, you can't fake chemistry, baby. and apparently...he can't fake attraction. *pets him and shoves him towards a gay bar*
and yeah! what you said! *nods vigorously*
*skips off to read ficlet*

Date: 2007-10-07 09:08 pm (UTC)I'm one of those people who will slash Bela/Ruby...I know this already. I liked Jo but like evil!Sam said- she's like a sister (and not the type they'll let into the Wincest club)
Either way I'm just mffed that there was a Dean sex scene and we got bascially nothing. I felt jipped.
*waits for next thursday*
