How come Wesley Clark has never been president?

no, I'm seriously asking. that wasn't a rhetorical statement of support, though I've liked him every time I've seen him appear on tv. I know he's run but never gotten the nomination. why is that? how do you think he'd have done if he *had* gotten the nom?

and while we're at it, is there some reason I *shouldn't* like him? because at first glance he seems like the traditional candidacy wet dream, and liberal to boot.

yeah, i think it's probably because he can't manage the media. he spent his whole life in the military, and so didn't know how to be a smooth talker.

also, his platform was super ad hoc in 2004. he had no record of dedication to any causes before he jumped into the candidate pool.

I wanted him VERY badly when he missed the Republican nod nine years back. I guess he didn't make it because he wasn't a big name guy and he actually knew something about the military.

I also really dig Fred Thompson. But he's too smart for most Republicans to select at the caucus. And too hands-off to satisfy either party when it comes to gov't. He sort of thinks people should govern themselves, so no damned wonder that other politicians don't choose him!

He was a favorite of a lot of people in the 2004 election cycle. I remember Joss made a campaign contribution to him. There was some gaffe he made, I can't remember now what it was, but it alienated some of his supporters. It was a more topical thing though than Howard Dean's yell, which has to have been one of the dumbest reasons ever to stop supporting a candidate.

Oh yes, I love Wes Clark. I was so for him in 2004, but by the time we had our Caucus in Colorado, Kerry was already the nominee. I think Clark got in the game too late that time, and for some reason all us democrats (well those that got to participate in primaries and caucuses before it was all decided) were sure that everyone else liked Kerry for president.

As for the last cycle, I understand he's really close to the Clintons, so he wasn't gong to run against Hillary. Maybe in 8 years? He's not really that old I think, and pretty darn distinguished. Supreme Allied Commander is the best job title ever.
