i am SO glad to know that someone else (ok. several someone elses) finds this more frustrating than fun.

c'mon, show. seriously. you're supposed to be following this GRAND ARC, with oh so HIGH stakes, and yet you continuously get distracted by shiny objects and trying to impress the popular crowd, and as far as i can tell, all you're doing is UNdoing the tension and urgency you claim to have built. either bring on fight the apocalypse, or get off the pot.

I know, dude, I was like a pig in mud at the beginning of the season and still am whenever they WANDER back over to the main arc but other than that, they're making me nuts. don't get me wrong, I don't want *every* ep to be about that, because then I think my head might explode, but it seems like the lighter / more case-related eps between could be...better. somehow. less. schizophrenic in context, you know?

I think you've nailed my frustration with that. They probably can't keep running along the ARC full speed for 20+ episodes, and need a few lighter one offs to balance the angst and pick up new viewers and shit. I'm a sucker for the original MotW formula, and I'm pretty confident that they could bring the humour, and have their AU-flashbacks-that-teach-Dean-a-lesson one offs and hyper-stylized episodes, and still stay on point. It just takes a bit more effort.

Sera et al.: every time you make an episode that does not push the narrative in someway , then you are essentially telling me that the stakes are NOT as immediate as I think "apocalyse" might imply. Either the seals are breaking, Lucifer/Lilith are coming, and they ought to be stopped, or not. You can't be meh on this one.


oh, and the icon? madame_meretrix made it for me. apparently my default smoking JDM was not helping with the not smoking... the pics that keep surfacing are doing something amazing to my girly bits.

hahahahaha. yesssss. I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment of that post. it's made of awesome.

it was funny because this has never really been an issue for me in the past, but I told meretrix that when they threw us back to teen!Dean and it was so similar and yet OFF from fic I love, it was like I was watching a porno made about me masturbating, without my permission. hahahaha. gen fics about the family pre-canon are sort of sacrosanct to me (which is probably why I've never written one, oddly enough), so seeing it being brought to life was like. squicky. in the extreme.

so I think that opened the door to me getting twitchy for this ep. I wonder if it would have bugged me if that hadn't sort of sensitized me to it.

Yeah, there's been more than one episode this season which has dipped its toes where fanfic has previously tread. Some of those were just following a logical development given past canon, but this next episode? Looks like it could confront the whole issue head-on.

Oh, I don't know any spoilers either, just what was in the trailer for next week (which can sometimes be deceptive as to the actual content of the episode, so who knows). It just had me thinking that there were authorial roads not taken behind it.
